The orange squash party adventures in UK & Ireland Part 4

Day four dawned with a light drizzle and a fog. But wanting to recapture the magic of the previous day's coastal walk, we set out for one last walk before we checked out. Visibility was so low that everything was a ghostly version of what we had seen before. :D

We caught the bus to the sea city of Bude. Here there were no buses to Exeter but we got a friendly cabby who painfully answered many questions. He told us about their sea diving ceremony during Christmas, done for charity and how in 2010 when the water's surface froze over they continued with the ceremony, though according to him the water was warmer than the weather outside! :D

He recalled how in the winter of 2003 or thereabouts the snow had piled higher than their electric posts! It seems because of the saline wind the snow soon melts away. Then we happened to see a rather gory sign that proclaimed 'Cat's Eye Removed'!

Suddenly, the road looked a lot more sinister. What kind of place was this that they put up such signs so casually, I thought! And then, we all burst out laughing (lots of relief there!) when he explained that cat's eyes are road markers that serve as night guides flashing in the middle of the road! :D After reaching Exeter, we took a train to Bath.

It was evening when we arrived in Bath, checked into our hotel and set out for a walk. It is a beautiful city, reminding me of the Venice I'd seen in pics, with its waterways, boats and architecture.

In fact our room faced one such waterway, beautiful with greenery, willows and birds. There was even a little gate leading right to the road that ran alongside the waterway. We didn't have much time since everything closes everywhere by six, if not five, and practically everything shuts down because it's a Sunday. We missed the twilight tour of the Roman Baths that Anu was keen on but had dinner at the Royal Bath House which hosts the event. The duck in cherry juice was quite yum!

It was a kick to see the Grand Pump Room (from the outside because everything had shut down, remember? :P) of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and imagine Elizabeth, Darcy and Wickham, all there. :) Anu and Sur went on to explore a small waterfall and the sight of bathing gulls. I was cold and needed to wash my hair while I could, so I headed back. As I walked along back the clock was striking 10 and I had only the eerie cackles of the gulls to keep me company via the canal road. :)
