More on Aisha

Aisha darling has started babbling, sorry, rendering long monologues in a language that is a mix of what sounds like Chinese and Arabic (not that I can identify either, but that’s what it sounds like). These monologues are accompanied by definite hand gestures and ballet-like poses. Considering she is just one and a half we would look on at her antics with amusement. Till one day, when inspiration struck. What if babies too have a language of their own, I wondered. The next time, she started off I tried to decipher what she was saying and this is what it sounded like ‘chickunmakkai’ ‘chickupattees’… okay fine, I was fixated on non-veg being deprived during the last few weeks :P

Now let’s see, what else has she been up to? Oh yes! She’s been practising Surya Namaskar with mom since she was just a year old, or at least she'd managed the first pose. But lately, she’s been going through the entire routine of what she calls ‘aycise’, often dragging mom from reading, cooking, sleeping or whatever she’d been occupied with!

Grandma and Baby, tired after the 'aycise'

And then there was the doll episode. We had gone to a relative’s place where Aisha was fascinated with a doll that was nearly as big as she was. I felt really bad when we had to persuade her to leave the doll behind when we left but I was determined to get a similar doll for my little pest as soon as I could.
That day, when I came home after work eager to show her the new doll was also the day when she’d been given her vaccination booster. There she lay, lethargic and sick, quite unlike her usual self. But she brightened up when she saw the doll, wearing bright orange shoes and bright green hair. I asked her what she wanted to call her new friend. And she said ‘Tinkle’ and then continued, ‘tinkle, tinkle…’ humming the first line of the nursery rhyme J

Did I mention, Aisha’s turned into a pest? Well, okay, we take turns at irritating each other. This usually starts when I’m reading. My little pest will come and flick my book or newspaper away. I’d glare at her, sound off a few dire warnings and go back to reading. The pest comes back again. I glare and go back to reading. She does it again and then I look at her to indicate she’s had it. I tickle her and tickle her and tickle her, till she cries not ‘mercy’ but ‘book, book, book’ pointing to the book I'd kept aside to tackle her! What a neat way to tell me she’s had enough and I should go back to reading :D
