I see from
the corner of my eye
A grey hulking shape

Instantly
My mind gains wings
And imagination soars
A monster it says
Or a ghoul or two

Should I take a second look
Nah! Says my mind
Don't want the creature
To be on to you

This is silly
the other voice says
[there always has to be
another voice
or three]

Look now, it says
What's the worst that can happen?
That is the trouble
The first voice says
There are a lot of 'worst things'
I can imagine

And so it goes
for a second or two
though it seems
I've been stuck in a limbo

Fed up with this
mental wrangling
I chance a look
And am not too surprised
to see
A pigeon huddling
on
the window seat.
